Countdown begins.

Let's start with the title. Originally, when we were booking this trip, we were going to have a 10 hour layover in Amsterdam, between Toronto and Glasgow. We thought it would be fun to pop into downtown Amsterdam, grab some lunch, maybe a whirlwind tour of Anne Frank's house, and race back for our connection. If nothing else, it would make a great title for our travel blog!

Long story short - we ended up with a direct flight into Glasgow (which lands at 5:00am, but that's a story for another post) in July, and directly home from Paris at the end of September.

Our mission between now and departure day (July 11th) - how do we fit everything we need and want into these two, small bags, for a 3 month trip through: Scotland, Wales, England, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Spain and France? Suggestions? Tips? Cautions?

3 months. 8 countries. 1 carry-on bag. Each.

  1. ummm...good luck with that...those bags might hold my toiletries...lol! I'm excited you've started a blog...since I'll probably never get there myself I can visit these places vicariously through you. Happy travels!!!

  2. I pack a bigger bag when I take a shower. Stay away from hee-lan cooos (highland cows) and wee randy sheep herders. Enjoy a bottle of Heather Ale for me. Shane

  3. Guess there won't be any room for wine shopping on your travels. Nightly washing will become second nature after the first month. I give you credit for going so lightly. Had to take a large and a small suitcase to Chicago for a week for the two of us.
Looking forward to all of your blogs. Have a wonderful time.

  4. Wow! Good thing it is summer! It's been a while since I have travelled so lightly but those little microfibre towels are great to dry yourself off and also to help dry out your nightly laundry (twist them out together). Also a sarong does multiple duty as beach or after-shower coverup, scarf, pillow, shawl, picnic blanket, hobo-bag but you'll need to find a stick.... maybe even a sail?

Looking forward to following you on this blog. Safe travels!

  5. I second the sarong comment! When I travelled in Thailand and Portugal, I used mine for everything! It can be a modesty cover for bare shoulders when going into a temple or church, a light blanket to keep the sun off when napping on the beach, a sylish (?) skirt when going into a club or restaurant after a day of hiking, a make-shift bag when you find a place with fresh, ripe figs, a wrap when it's a bit chilly at night and so on!

I'd say you should each keep one in your purse at all times.

Have a fantastic trip, and I look forward to following the trip and living vicariously through your blog- so update regularly!

  6. Are you nuts? Did you really think that you could take a trans-atlantic overnight flight and then land at Schipol resfreshed and then go into Amsterdam (15 miles from the airport)for a leisurely lunch and then return to catch your next flight?

You may be nuts ... but I envy this once in a lifetime opportunity that you have.

  7. So happy you are doing this! Camp suds washes hair, body, dishes and clothes. A small container goes a loooong way, not sure what it's called in Europe. Enjoy!

  8. Hope the travels have gotten off to a fantastic start! Looking forward to hearing more and seeing some pics... Kathy.
